Mineral: Colemanite

 

Colemanite is a borate mineral with the chemical formula Ca₂B₆O₁₁·5H₂O and is the main ore for Boron production. 

 

It is characterised by: 

• High purity
• Relatively low density of 2.42 g/cm³ compared to other mineral fillers, which are typically at 2.7 g/cm³
• Medium Mohs hardness of 4.5
• Decomposition around 240°C, releasing water
