Introduction
Chromite is a mineral that is an iron chrome oxide. It has a chemical formula of FeCr2O4.
The main constituent of Portachrome A is chromite.
Chromite is a crystalline off-colour Metal Oxide, characterised by:
- High melting point
- Excellent thermal stability
- High density
- Medium Mohs hardness of 5.5
Basic properties
Property | Value | Unit |
Hardness (Mohs) | 5.5 | [-] |
Density | 4.5-4.8 | [kg/ dm3] |
The combination of high thermal stability and high hardness make the Portachrome grades extremely useful for brake-lining applications.
